sidewalksparkle: (watch and wait)
I am busy creating the worst English paper ever written. I still have to study for Government. The tentative (yes, it's still tentative) thesis statement: "In Invisible Man, Ralph Ellison illustrates the influence of selfish motives on impressionable members of society by contrasting two incidents in which the narrator is urged to become self-reliant."

This entry takes place during a small break in which I am listening to ONE (okay, two) song(s) on headphones before getting back to work. I'm so frustrated. I hate leaving things to the last minute, but I didn't plan on re-starting 6,200 times.

I want to write about how selfish motives are an enormous factor in behavior and that people (the narrator) pay attention to social standing more than the nature of advice, and people believe it if enough people say somebody's crazy. And that two people can preach self-reliance and the secretly selfish one can be taken more seriously than the other, for all the wrong reasons. But I want to say it eloquently and I'm running out of time/strength. My paper is a bloody mess, and a short, half-finished bloody mess at that!

I really, really like it when "Yes!" gets written in the margin of my paper with a little line indicating which lines the "Yes!" is meant for. Praise feels great; there's no denying that.
