If you think to yourself "What should I do now?"
Then take the baton, girl, you better run with it
There is no point in standing in the past cause it's over and done with

--Belle & Sebastian, "If She Wants Me"

I drove home alone at 1:30 this morning, smiling as if I were with somebody else, responding to what was being said. I brought in the New Year with The Princess Bride, a raucous boys vs. girls game of Taboo (Molly, Kristen, and I left the guys in the dust with our magical feminine sixth sense), about 10 minutes of Dick Clark's so-called "Rockin Eve" (we had to watch the ball drop), and Welch's Sparkling Grape Juice (hurrah pretend alcohol)!

I opened a fortune cookie at 9:30 on the 31st, then lost the slip of paper before the new year began. So I opened another after midnight, and I am happy to report that "Strange new experiences add to your joy of living."

No resolutions. I know what I want for 2004, and it's not easy to condense. Vague and hyperactive hopefulness is better.
